Objective

All around Haiti, thousands of tons of fruits are lost daily due to lack of access to markets. In 2003, the National Association of Fruits Transformers was created to support rural fruit-processing cooperative micro-enterprises to improve their production in order to improve access to national market. Those micro-enterprises face various difficulties, especially in terms of management, productivity, quality control and marketing, to maintain and eventually expand their activities. The overall objective of the project is to improve the income of 1100 fruit processing micro entrepreneurs (mainly women) and their families. The specific objective is to improve the competitiveness and profitability of 51 cooperative micro-enterprises located throughout the country.

Why is FOMIN supporting ANATRAF:

ANATRAFH is the biggest network of associations that are processing fruits in various regions of the Country. It buys the raw material needed by the workshops (Fruit processing micro plants) and sells it to them. The member association’s produce and ANATRAF sell part of their products in its central shop and in supermarkets in Port-au-Prince and other big cities like Jacmel which were the most affected by the earthquake. ANATRAF and five of its members ((APF, APV, PFST Palmiste a vin, PFST Riviere Froide, and Himalaya) have been very affected by the earthquake. While there was no one injured among ANATRAF’s staff, the facility that housed the organization has been seriously cracked; the communication and information system has been severely damaged. Inside the building lay on the floor the products, from the associations, that were stored for commercialization. In addition, the products that were placed in some of the supermarkets in Port-au-Prince, Leogane and Jacmel are all lost. The emergency allocation support will help ANATRAFH and its members to resume operation and continue implementing the project in a satisfactory manner.
